Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Activates NATS
February 20, 2006
The state of Michigan is the latest state to activate the National Athletic Testing System (NATS). The MHSFCA will conduct one NATS Test in Detroit and another in East Lansing this spring.
“This decision was not a difficult one. After thoroughly examining every aspect of the NATS program, it became clear to our association that NATS is a program that our state not only needs, but our young football players deserve,” said MHSFCA Executive Director Dr. Don Lessner.
“I am pleased that NATS is showing steady growth among our high school coaches associations. The reason for that growth is simple, high school and college coaches are working together to create more scholarship opportunities for student-athletes who play the game of football,” said AFCA Executive Director Grant Teaff. Coach Teaff stated, “With the activation of NATS in Michigan, Washington, and Oklahoma in just the past two months, more and more college coaches will soon be utilizing the NATS program.”
MHSFCA NATS State Director for Michigan, Rod Baker added that “More than 300 colleges are already using NATS to assist in their initial evaluation of high school football players. No way were we going to let our kids miss out on this type of exposure.”
NATS Tests are presently scheduled for the states of Washington, Oklahoma, Maryland, New Jersey, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Nevada and Michigan in the spring of 2006.
