BROAD JUMP

College Coach Comments:

"The standing broad jump is one of the best test indicators of raw athleticism and explosion. Athletes that excel in this area demonstrate the ability to rapidly accelerate from a stationary position to explode into another player to make a block or tackle. A good score in this test indicates that an athlete may excel in a variety of positions on the field."

Procedures:

  1. Athlete begins in a standing position with both feet behind start line.
  2. Athlete jumps forward and lands on both feet without falling backwards.
  3. Each athlete performs the broad jump twice.
  4. Both jumps are recorded and the best jump is used for NATS scoring purposes.

185lb. BENCH PRESS

College Coach Comments:

"At the college and pro levels, upper body positioning and control is the lynchpin in determining the outcome of one-on-one battles between offensive and defensive players. Typically both players are fighting to get their hands to the other player’s chest and then “lock them out.” Achieving such positioning allows one player to control the other and to move him to his advantage. The max-rep bench press demonstrates a player’s upper body strength and endurance and indicates how he will fair in one-on-one showdowns."

Procedures:

  1. Each athlete may warm-up with 135 lbs.
  2. Athlete lifts 185 lb bench press as many repetitions as possible.
  3. Must keep both feet on ground, buttocks on bench and extend arms on each repetition.
  4. May not bounce bar off chest.
  5. Each athlete performs drill once. Total reps are recorded and used for NATS scoring purposes.

Height and Weight:

Height is measured to 1/8th of an inch accuracy and weight is measured to the nearest pound.
